A couple of questions: Do you have one of the "special editions" that Mark made a patch for in testing out a couple of bugs? Or, did you perchance mistakenly download the trial patch rather than the "paid for" patch? Either of those conditions would give you the error you saw. I've actually done that myself (downloaded and tried to install the wrong patch), before

If either of the above was the case, then you can just go back and download the correct patch. Or, just to be on the safe side all around, you can redownload your paid-for copy of Composer - see Mark's links above. That will be the latest full version, and won't cost you anything except more bandwidth on the download
