Searching for and Downloading MIDI and Notation Files from the Internet

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

We strongly recommend that you use your favorite Internet browser and search engine to search for and download MIDI files from the Internet.

If you have associated the MIDI .mid filename extension and Karaoke .kar filename extension with Notation Player, then as soon as the download of the file has completed, Notation Player will automatically start up and open the file. You will see the MIDI or Karaoke file transcribed to sheet music.  To set such an association, please see your browser's "Options" or "Settings" (often labeled "Tools" as well) to set the default programs for filetypes.  This varies from browser to browser.  In this case, you would set "Notation Player" as the default program for the filetypes ".mid", ".kar", and ".not".

Also, you can use your favorite Internet browser to download MIDI files to a directory on your system. Then you can use Notation Player's File Open command to open any of the downloaded MIDI files.

When searching for a particular song, you will typically get the best results by searching for the song's title and then adding " .mid" to the search.  For example, to find MIDI files of the song "Happy Birthday", just enter "happy birthday .mid" in the search field of the search engine.
