Editing As-Performed Attack

1 Attachment(s)
I used to do a lot of editing as-performed attack location and duration in my postings. Back in those days, there was a different path to the Piano Roll.

Now, when I click on Sound and Editing As-Performed Attack Location and Duration, my understanding of how to do this kind of edit is to type the letter d followed by minus (or plus) symbol, then the numeric value I want to decrease (or increase) the selected note's duration.

When I try this in the attached sample, selecting the C5 in measure 5, typing the letter d, followed by a minus symbol - and then try to type a 2. I get a yellow error message saying "Internal application error".

The User Guide gives very nice examples of what I would like to do, but I can't seem to find the right keystrokes.

Re: Editing As-Performed Attack

Hi, Rayner:

The following is successful for me with your example.

Sound
Piano Roll
As performed note attacks and durations (ep)
Select note
Decrease as performed duration (d+left arrow)
Increase as performed duration (d+right arrow)
Snap as performed duration to as notated (d+down arrow)

Hope that helps.

Hi Ralph,

Thanks for attaching a test file so that we're working on the same thing.
When I do the steps you listed for that C5 in measure 4, it works fine for me.
I wonder if maybe you are using the numeric keypad and it is toggled to a different state? Or maybe some other computer keyboard configuration option is on your keyboard or operating system?
I'm using version 5.1.4 for testing.

Re: Editing As-Performed Attack

Hi Sherry,

When you say, "When I do the steps you listed for that C5 in measure 4, it works fine for me.", are you keying in the number of ticks, as in "d-200", or are you using David's approach, i.e. d-left arrow? I can use David's method, but I'd rather get my method to work. Using the arrow keys can be quite time consuming when changing large values or changing a lot of notes.

The numeric keypad does not work for me - I'm just using the numbers at the top of a standard keyboard. And, to my knowledge, I have no modifications to my keyboard set-up.

A couple of additional things I didn't mention in my posting is that I don't always get the yellow error message. At times, I get nothing.

I've been looking a some of my older scores where I would have been keying a lot of changes to duration and/or attack and nothing is jogging my memory. I was writing a lot more in the 2014 - 2020 time frame.

Any other suggestions? I remember there were considerable changes in Composer when the piano roll engine went sub-rosa under Sound.

Ralph
