Where do you find good MIDI files?
I do a lot of work analyzing other writer's works. It gives me a lot of insight into how to create a sound that I would like to use in one of my arrangements. As I try to get into the more sophisticated aspects of the differences between the recordings of human players and music generated on a PC, I find that I can get a lot out of looking at the Notation Composer display of a midi file. I have done general internet searches and found a few good hits, but does anyone know of some particularly good websites that would be best for above-average midi files?

Variety (oldies, jazz, pop, Christmas)
Hi Ralph,
Don Carroll has some pages with a lot of good tunes - quite the mix. Oldies, jazz, pop, Christmas - he's got a lot of nicely done files that are often found on others' "gathered" pages. You can find his site at http://midkar.com/MidiStudio/DCarroll/a-g.html. Near the bottom of the page you can navigate to other pages of his as well (the link above is just for songs that begin with A-G). I know there are a lot of pages out there - anyone else have some favorites? ttfn, Sherry p.s. We have had to move the MIDI file directory that used to be hosted on the Notation Software website to http://www.beanfieldcastle.net/MIDI_Directory.html

Re: Where do you find good MIDI files?
This is a pay site, but it's probably the ultimate in classical music:
http://www.classicalarchives.com Here's a fun site with tons of old tunes, both known and unknown, up to 1922 (American copyright has been extended backward that far -- not so for other countries): http://www.halcyondaysmusic.com/ So many others! David |
