Recording Multiple Instruments
I have a Yamaha YPT-200 keyboard, and I'm trying to record some of the built-in songs. The keyboard sends MIDI data to the computer when playing these songs, and I'm able to record on one stave, but is there a way to separate all the different instruments out?
Thanks. Last edited by Al_; 04-06-2011 at 12:44 AM. Reason: Took out question about selecting |

Re: Recording Multiple Instruments
Hi Al,
Currently Composer only records from a single channel. Most auto-accompaniment will use multiple channels, one for each instrument. Therefore, it is not possible at this time to record such accompaniment directly into Composer. What you may be able to do is to save the auto-accompanied file as a .mid file on your keyboard, and then (using a memory stick or other means) transfer that to your computer where you can then open it in Composer. ttfn, Sherry

Re: Recording Multiple Instruments
Hi, Al and Sherry:
I have a DGX-500 (one of the ancestors of the YPT-200) and it only deals with type 0 midi files, ie., all of the tracks are saved as one track with each note having a specific mid channel assigned to it. What I have done in the past is use (HERESY ALERT!) PG Music's Power Tracks Pro Audio to record the type 0 file, then resave it as a type 1 file (each midi channel in a separate track). Then use Notation, Inc. software to create the notation for the song. (Power Track's notation sucks.) There are probably any number of freeware programs (likely older Win 3.1 or even DOS programs) that can record the type 0 file, a basically archaic format. I'm surprised that the YPT-200 sends midi data out when playing back the demo songs. The DGX-500 doesn't. Good luck. David |
