For the simple export of audio from Composer you can use the File/Export/Audio feature. If you wish to use the enhanced audio capabilities of Composer 5 to get even better sound, or to record yourself playing along with your song file, please keep reading.
The sound which is designed can be recorded with the ‘notation VST recorder’. The notation VST recorder is a simple VST3 plugin which is part of the Composer 5 installation file delivery and hooked in before the sound processes to the audio output channels. The export from notation VST recorder is of 32bit IEEE float format which is of very high quality. This high quality means that the export files can be huge in raw .wav format depending how long the recording lasts.
Compression while keeping the audio quality can be done in the mp3 format. In order to differentiate a recording between the two sources (NS Synth vs. notation VST recorder) we added the little indicator…_VST.mp3/wav to the exported file name.
We decided to go down this road and provide notation VST recorder as part of the package because there is no adequate, 64-bit recorder available which is as simple as this one to use.
Exporting of the recording happens by Composer’s high-quality audio export software.
The underlying VST technology of the notation VST recorder is based on Steinberg’s VST3 SDK where we signed a contract with Steinberg in 2020.
