No soundfont file loaded. What to do?
When starting Composer 5 the message pops-up:
No soundfont file loaded. Filename:
C:\Users\Public\Documents\Notation_4\Soundfonts\FluidR3Mono_GM.sf3
The reason why this issue happens is because previously Composer 4 was installed on this PC but all files were removed or renamed in particular the soundfont file.
In this case the Windows Registry becomes out of sync. The Registry contains entries of Composer 4 which Composer 5 relies on but they do not exist. Composer 5 does not clear the Registry in particular it does not clear the soundfont (because then the sound of Composer 5 would be worse vs. Composer 4).
==================================================
Options to fix it in 5.0.1:
(1) Exit/Close Composer 5
(2) if you are familiar with the Registry Editor Regedit, please delete the Registry
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Notation\Composer\AudioEngineParams
OR if you are not familiar with the Registry
(3) copy the file
C:\Users\Public\Documents\Notation_5\Soundfonts\FluidR3Mono_GM.sf3
to
C:\Users\Public\Documents\Notation_4\Soundfonts\FluidR3Mono_GM.sf3
Potentially create according directories if they do not exist
(4)
Delete file
C:\Users\Public\Documents\Notation_5\Composer_5\MidiDev.cf3
(5)
Connect and switch on your MIDI device
(6)
Start Composer 5
==================================================
What will happen:
(a) if you use (2), Composer 5 will create and determine the default parameters
if you use (3), Composer 5 will load the soundfont
C:\Users\Public\Documents\Notation_4\Soundfonts\FluidR3Mono_GM.sf3
(b) Composer detects the MIDI devices and re-builds the file
C:\Users\Public\Documents\Notation_5\Composer_5\MidiDev.cf3
All in all, the tasks can be done within few minutes
If you are not successful please contact us for help.

In 5.1.0: The default soundfont is automatically loaded and an alert message comes up to review the soundfont settings.
