Notation Musician (Composer) fails to open a MIDI file and reports: Mthd chunk ID (error 908). What should I do?

If Notation fails to open a MIDI file and reports "Mthd chuck ID (error 908)", this means that the MIDI file is incorrectly formatted. This might happen because the MIDI file was corrupted when it was downloaded from the Internet. But usually it means that the program that originally created the MIDI file did not correctly format the MIDI file. You can confirm whether the MIDI file has been correctly formatted by playing the MIDI file in another media player. If the other media player cannot open and play this MIDI file, then neither will Notation nor most other MIDI programs. The only program that is likely to be able to play the MIDI file is that program which incorrectly created the MIDI file.
