What is the NoteSoft Not file format?

The NoteSoft file format is defined by Notation Software. A NoteSoft file has a .not file name extension. The contents of a NoteSoft file consist of the details of the notated score, integrated with the original MIDI data. The NoteSoft file also saves for each track its assignment to a device, MIDI bank, and patch.

You may find it useful to save a score as a NoteSoft file, if after reading the MIDI file you make any of the following types of changes to the score: key signature, clef, instrument transposition, or device/channel/patch assignment. If you do not save the score as a NoteSoft file and then open the same MIDI file again at some later time, you will have to make the same changes again after a Notation product re-transcribes the MIDI file.
